Just curious about the average SSD lifespan. I've read soo many posts, both here and on other forums, that have people who seem to be thankful that their SSD has actually worked for more than 4 months in a row.

Four months. Really? And then a whole load more people saying that their drive has just died after about 12 months, like its some kind of personal record...

I have a legacy voicemail system at work that was installed back in 1998, it runs 24/7, and its still on its original HDD. In fact out of the hundreds, maybe thousands of mech HDD's I've seen and handled over the years its been unusual to have one fail in its 1st 12 months. Even supposedly super fragile laptop mech hard drives seem (on average) to last about 2-3 years of careless treatment before they fail.

So I just purchased my 1st SSD for home use... Does anyone have an SSD that's still running fine after 2, maybe even 3 years? I'd just like to know because I don't fancy having to RMA various SSD's 3-5 times a year just to keep one that works.

If you look much of the problems have been down to dodgy firmware/controllers.

I doubt many people who bought Intel SSD's have had to return them.

By comparison lots of people with OCZ SSD's have had problems.

I also had similiar concerns, I recently got a RealSSD M4 because it seems to get good reviews especially around reliability.

I bought my Intel 80gb x25-m g2 ssd in Feb '10 and its been rock solid.

As Lithium says a lot of problems were down to poor firmware/controllers.

Also got my 80GB intel around feb '10, one of the most noticeable improvements in system performance I've ever known! One day I'll have a system that will boot as fast as my Amiga (7 seconds from power on to desktop!)
