Hi all.

What are peoples opinions on M.2 drives here.
I'm thinking about buying a small M.2, say 120gb or so, to install windows on and applications, then have some SSDs to install games ect (when i build my system hopefully in the new year).

Looking at benchmarks on the Z97 motherboards, the M.2 drives operate roughly 200mb/s faster than an SSD.
Will this be noticeable in the real world, even though SSDs are fast anyway?

Cheers, Jason

not worth it IMO with current prices of 2.5" SSDs.

besides, you might need half size m.2, which are expensive and difficult to get.

also, that is sequential speed - you won't notice difference.

need to check whether your boards supports m.2 sata or m.2 pcie or both.
M.2 sata is just a different form factor (not faster)
M.2 PCIe x 4 is where its at for fully leaded performance increase.

M.2 sata has no real advantages on it's own. PCIe is slightly more noticeable in the real world, but not mindblowing. I'd put it in the "You'll notice it's faster if you're looking for it, but you won't actually care" category.
