Hi all,

my father is thinking about getting an SSD for is old xps m1710 laptop would this one work ok?

No reason it won't imo.

After looking about it seems it will work but not that well because you can't enable AHCI mode

It'll make a big difference in the speed and versatility as with an SSD laptops are bit more 'mobile' in the sense that you've got no worries about the hard disk getting damaged during movement while on and even without AHCI the SSD will run circles around any laptop hdd.

I hope he has win7 installed or otherwise the SSD will get to crawling speeds after some use.
