So my lads WD Green 2.5" SSD died over the weekend. Checked the warranty on it and its in warranty only downside is its got to be shipped to minnesota USA for warranty replacement.

Well as its only a 256Gb drive its not really worth it. Aside from the cost to send to the US i know first hand from having worked in the post office what a nightmare customs can be! Also it was very frustrating being redirected to sandisk to do the RMA on an SSD as its classed as a flash product.

So is there any SSD brands that offer UK based RMA?

when my sandisk ssd died, the RMA centre was in czechia, and they supplied the return label so no cost to myself
turnaround was within 2 weeks if i recall correctly

I'm sure Kingston and Crucial are UK RMA based. Solidigm is USA based and exactly the same as how Intel did theirs - I think return label, I will have to double check.

When my WDs died, it was all done through a UK RMA centre. Must have closed it, it was before brexit when I used them.

They mustve changed it then, there was a notice on the site that said the RMA address had recently changed.

Also found it odd that the RMA had to be done via Sandisk

I might be asking a bit much given how companies operate and their tax situations but would it be possible for a UK based retailer to handle the RAM on behalf of the overseas RMA entity?

I.E. Could OC do the RMA for you and get a credit for a drive from Western Digital?

I know it's complicated and it would cost the retailer to handle the RMA but sometimes they have old stock kicking around that would be an easy RMA replacement and a win-win-win for everyone.

Crucial does not have UK based RMA as I tried to RMA an MX500 SSD and the information about paying import duties for the replacement told me that they don't have UK based RMA.

Yeah, so far as I know, they can negotiate individual deals with the manufacturer, in regards to compensation and replacement stock. I think that's part of why some retailers prefer not to stock certain brands and prioritise other brands.

I was thinking it would have been the same as their RAM, unless that's changed from Scotland. Just goes to show, this thread is being quite useful, maybe we can collate peoples user experiences.

I've spoke to Crucial exactly a month ago on the phone, 0800 number, and got through to an Indian call centre. For both Ram and SSDs, they get returned to a UK address, and the RMA then is dealt with by the Czech Republic. Micron in Kilbride, Scotland, which originally handled all UK RMAs, ceased to exist around year 2019. The building is now the home of Ferring Pharmaceuticals when looking on street view, the sign used to say Micron.
On their website it states "You are responsible for any duties and taxes due on replacement product sent from Micron CPG."

As for Corsair, another retailer in the UK handles all RMAs, even if you buy from any other retailer.

Kingston will be quick, as its their Kingston base in the UK, even if you go through the retailer.
