Been struggling for the past 2 days to get it installed and working correctly, it's on a gigabyte 965p-ds4 on the ich8 controller along with a raid5, the SSD works by itself in AHCI though not as part of the raid. More than once I've had the machine hang because the drive timed out on the iastor controller, meaning a reverify of the Raid taking hours. I'm all but ready to give up, I've wasted two days on it so far and got nowhere.

I've connected it to the graid running in ahci too but speeds are way down compared to the ich8. What the hell do I do!? :(

I dont think this has been thought through very well or explained well. From how I read this, you are trying to install 'it' meaning 1 SSD ? Raid 5 for a start is 3 drives and a simple RAID setup is 2 or more generally of the same drive. If it works on its own as you say then thats fine, if its a single drive then boot from it. As daniel said, I also think you are maybe trying to add the SSD to your existing setup. It can be done, but all other drives will default to the smallest drive size, so if your SSD is 64GB, all your other drives you are raiding will default to 64GB. Plus, I would never in a million years RAID SSD and Spindle drives together.

I would (imo) get your SSD running, bung Win7 on it and use that as your boot drive. Any other drives you have use them as storage. If you want RAID buy another identical SSD and use Raid 0 and they would then be your boot drives with your others being storage.
