Hi. I'm new to the forum so hope the following questions have not already been dealtwith (I did look but it's a huge forum!!):

I would like to upgrade my main C drive to SSD and wonder if:

1. I'm looking for about 100/120 GB and the Vertex 2E appears a good buy but I see that buying 2 60GB drives works out cheaper. The difference is small but I wonder if anyone can advise on the pros/cons of two rather than one drive?

2. My motheboarb is the Asus P5B Deluxe Wi-Fi which is now a bit long in the tooth. Would I have any issues with SSD's on this MB?
Thanks for any advice you may have

It's worth checking for bios updates of r your mobo. Not sure about SSD compatibility to be honest.

I've been having problems with a my Vertex 2e lately, so I'd advise against going raid 0 with them - last thing you need is the added complication of RAID if you start having problems...

Any particular reason for want to upgrade to a SSD? They're good drives, but if your rig's that old you could probably get better results upgrading gfx/cpu.

Your motherboard uses the Intel ICH8R for the Southbridge, so as suggested update to latest BIOS and attach your 100/120GB SSD to a SATA port on the ICH8R cont in AHCI mode...wouldn't bother with 2 x 60GB SSD or RAID, you will find a single SSD fast enough...

EDIT: SATA port not "post" bit of a spelling mistake on my behalf...

Thanks to both of you for your reply. I think I have the latest BIOS but even that hasn't been updated by Asus for quite a while. I was going to upgrade MB and CPU but got cold feet due to cost and my inexperience.
My thinking was to upgrade drive C and put most of my programmes on it (mainly OS , Offive 2007 and Premier elements/photos. I hope to get another year or so out of my current build and hopefully be able to use the SSD on a new build.

Not sure what "and attach your 100/120GB SSD to a SATA post on the ICH8R " means. I was hoping to do a straight swap with my WD drive and just change to AHCI. Have I missed something? Finally another daft question - I have a 1TB drive (D) do I change the settings on this drive to AHCI or leave as they are?
Thanks again for your help

Ich8 is a controller and on your motherboard you probably have 4 to 6 SATA ports that are the same colour using them be better than the other colours
