SSD Mounting Adaptors

Hi,

I am buying a couple of Samsung 850 Pro solid state drives. The drives are 2.1/2" and the case bays are 3.1/2", so I need some mounting adaptors.

There seems to be a lot of choice and some adaptors appear to be quite enclosed, which I imagine will impeded cooling airflow around the SSD.

Can anyone recommend a really good 2.1/2" to 3.1/2" adaptor to buy?

Thanks,

Razoo

I have the same SSDs and have no brackets for them to sit in either.

all I did was reset them up against the side inside the 3.5" bays as that's the only drive ive got in my system and its been fine.

getting a new case soon that supports SSDs as my current one is like 15 years old lol

if you can reset then somewhere safely then do that and it will be fine

In my server, where the 3.5" slots are needed for data drives, I just put the SSD at the bottom of the case, secured with blu-tack. Works fine, even when moving it around.

I used this for two drives

Thanks for the recommendation. I was considering the Akasa adaptor, but read a lot of negative reports stating that the SSD fits fine, but the adaptor doesn't fit into the 3.1/2" bay in many mainstream cases (CoolerMaster, Antec, Dell, etc.). Apparently the holes don't line up and screws are the wrong size.

If that is true, it demonstrates a fairly high level of incompetence by Akasa. There are several similar looking adaptors on offer (made in China) that suffer the same incompatibility problems. I thought 3.5" bays had standardised fixings.

SSD/HDD Adaptor Choice Resolved

The best 2 x 2.1/2 inch SSD to 3.1/2 inch HDD bay adaptor I've found is the Icy Box IB-AC643. Ebay, £6.40, including delivery. Its cheaper on Amazon if you are buying enough items (>£20) to qualify for free shipping.
