I've just took the plunge and bought the Crucial M225 64GB SSD as it was on special for £135 - should be here in the next few days.

Now then, this being my first SSD I'm not sure what the dos & donts are! I know that I'll need to update to the latest 1916 Firmware to enable TRIM support, I'll also be re-installed Windows 7 x64 on the drive once the firmware has been updated. Could you guys point me in the right direction of what to do and what not to do with an SSD please?

Cheers :)

Kona

Edit: When I say "best practices" I mean things like what to do with the Windows pagefile, AntiVirus On-Demand scanning settings - things that access the hard drive and may degrade the performance over time and general tweaks!

I am looking to get the Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive from OCUK. Not sure that a 64gb drive would be enough.

I don't have an SSD yet myself, so I'm not sure how valid the info is, but I found a guide on Tweak Town when researching the topic myself.

Thanks for the link - I'll take a look at it now :)

This guide seems a bit outdated, most of these tweaks are not needed in newer SSD drives.

Can you name which tweaks are not needed please? I'm compiling a check-list of things to do after install and I'd rather keep it as compact as possible :p

Cheers,

Just make sure defrag, is off along with superfetch, and prefetch.
There's a nice little app here to do that for you.
Other than that, just use it like you would a normal drive.
