I'm trying to install an SSD as a storage device only, this one to be specific:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-168-SA

Before I move on, this is my mobo: http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3978#ov

I realised I had no power/SATA cables left so I just decided to use the ones connected to the Blu Ray drive until some arrive. Anyway, in the boot, I see this:

It's listed as a slave drive, is this due to it needing a different SATA port?

Anyway, I load the system, and check the software:

How come it's unable to detect the SATA interface? Also, AHCI is disabled, which I tried to enable...

... But had no such luck. The only two options I can switch to AHCI are "PCH SATA Control Mode" (which I tried, then Windows failed to boot) and "GSATA3 Ctrl Mode", But I have nothing in them right now, maybe move SSD cable here?

Moving on, I ran a test:

Quite slow at the moment, I assume this is due to AHCI being currently disabled and the actual cable type being too slow? I guess I need something such as this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-047-AK ?

Here are a few connection pics if needed:

I believe it's currently in port "SATA2_3"

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You need to first enable AHCI in the OS before enabling it in the BIOS, this is what causes the BSOD/Boot failure as you noted.

Here's a simple guide how to do it:-
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/61869-ahci-enable-windows-7-vista.html

Re-bench your SSD speeds after and you should see an improvement:)

Thanks! I'll do this now and report back!

PS: Do you think I should move the SATA cable into one of the SATA3 6Gbps slots as well? And would that cable I linked help?

Also once you've enabled the AHCI mode in the bios do a reboot back to the bios and check the disc boot order ;)

Where should it be in the order?

any sata cable will work at the same speed, just swap your existing cable into a sata3 speed port

as for windows not booting just do the reg tweak above or download this quicker file and run it,then reboot into bios set to ahci/boot into windows and that's it

I see, thought the cable was just limited xD

Yes, it seems it just needs connection to a 6gbps port, shall do so now :)

enable turbo mode in magician tool and you should see faster speeds

I didn't see a turbo mode, I saw RAPID mode, that it? Anyway, It asked to restart again if I enabled that, and I'm too lazy at the moment for another xD

Good news though, now at:

- Sequential Write: 523/520
- Sequential Read: 552/540
- Random Write: 65944/66000 IOPS
- Random Read: 68008/97000 IOPS

Thanks!
