MY 128gb M4 has stopped being recognised at boot time.
It appears in the initial list of peripherals.
If I use F8 to choose a boot it is there and will boot.

It is not appearing in the P8Z68-V GEN3 graphical Bios, but again is there with F8 option and will boot until I restart the PC.

Ideas anyone, please?

using latest firmware for the ssd?

Yep.

Everything was fine. Then it just dtopped working properly.

What I don't understand is why it isn't seen on the BIOS pics or the BOOT section of the BIOS but is in the F8 list of hardware IN the BIOS.....

idk,latest mb bios too?

tried different sata cables and ports? see if it still does it

Plug another ssd in and it recognises it - have to set it up in BIOS first.

Don't understand that it appears in the list of peripherals that you get at the start of the BIOS process, but it is not seen inside the BIOS itself.

The PC BIOS is the latest for me [the only other one is if you want to do something with Intel stuff]

cant think why its not seeing it

why f8? does it showup in the boot menu? if so are you setting the m4 as first boot device in the bios? if not it will skip it and try to boot from a storage hdd

The AMI BIOS, as you start the PC, shows the peripherals - HD,SSD,CD and USB's, before going on to load windows [or NOT, in my case].

If I go into the BIOS itself, it does not show the SSD.
If I go into "Advanced" to set up the boot order the SSD does not show in the list. So I am unable to save it.....

If I use "F8" as the PC starts to boot it shows the SSD in the long list of things to boot from - ditto if I do it WITHIN the BIOS. I can select the SSD to boot from and it does.

Ahh I understand

Maybe turning off hotswap might make it showup? Does it show up in IDE mode? Could be a BIOS bug

Hmmm - where is "hot swap" he said ignorantly?

BIOS bug would be strange as its been running for well over a year wiyh no probs.

it lets you pull out the hdd/ssd without powering off the pc

im only guessing I have no idea why its playing up now if it was fine before

ohh in te bios where you see the list of sata ports and hdd's connected, should be an option next to each drive/sata port

SOLVED!

It seems it is a "known" thing with the M4 [not by me and others it seems :D ] that if it powers down "improperly" it locks itself down until you do a couple of power cycles. [It fears a dodgy PSU.....]

Unplug the SATA cable, power up into bios, leave 30 mins, power off, disconnect power cable for 30 seconds.
Repeat the above, then connect the SATA and LO! it mostly boots again.
