SSD on a really oldcomp

Got a m8 whos got a old comp wih a 80gb hard drive.
with a sata adapter would it be poss to run a ssd.

Yes but it may not operate at full speed. Think some old controllers are half what they are now. You would notice the difference though, even on a 3Gps controller.

If it's an IDE machine, I wouldn't bother.

would be a 2nd hand vertex 2 he got cheap as ide drives cant find..

If it works, even on a ATA-5, Ultra ATA/66 connection you'd see a huge real time benefit as the seek time would be over 100 times faster.

Probably more trouble than it's worth. You'd need to find an adaptor which the bios sees as bootable and is also compatible with the SSD.

i have tried with bad results these adpters not able to load windows unless they got any better....

what about a hybrid hdd? like a seagate momentus xt

or a caching ssd? for that you would need to see if your mb supports raid

I'm not going to stick my neck out and say it definitely *wouldn't* work, but I'd be surprised if it did.

If the PC is so old that it doesn't have any SATA ports, to be honest I'd save the money and put it towards a new... well, a new PC really...
