Morning,
New here so i'm sorry if this is in the wrong area!
Sorry this is a bit of a read but I tried to put in as much info as I could
I use Two SSD drives an old OCZ agility 3 120g as a boot drive
and a Samsung pm951 m.2 NVME 512GB.
Windows is installed on the agility 3 and nothing else - all programs are on the m.2
My other specs are:
I7-4790k Not overclocked
MSI Gaming 5 Mobo
8gb 2400mhz Hyper X savage memory
GTX 980 8pack HOF video card
Crucial 750W PSU
Running windows 10 with all updates installed/ Drivers up to date. Mobo bios was updated to latest version months ago with no issues.
Windows 10 was installed fresh a month ago.
My issue:
Two days ago whilst playing ARK: survival evolved my PC froze unexpectedly. At this point I had to do a hard restart, this is when the issues began.
During restart the EUFI boot wouldn't load into windows I was stuck on the motherboards splash screen with the loading circle going around and round. I then had to hard restart it a further two times for windows to kick in with "your system did not load correct" error and gave me the option to continue as normal.
At this point windows did load extremely slow and I am talking 3-5 min to boot from splash screen to usable windows. Then it would freeze periodically for up to 10 seconds on the desktop without me doing anything. When it did work it could run anywhere from 10 min without issue to 2-3 hours but will always end up in a freeze that will either after 10 seconds unfreeze or become totally unresponsive
further restarts after this initial slow boot loaded windows normally in about 10-15 seconds to a usable windows.
I had the task manager open and I noticed that the drive had very frequent spikes to 100% usage that I thought ok its writing something that's taking up its time but this has only ever happened in the last 2 days. No new programs or anything have been installed in meantime.
I was then advised to view the event viewer to see what is going on an I was shown literally hundreds and hundreds (if i could show you the image you can scroll down for a whole 30 seconds and all you will see is this error it is literally flooded) of disk warnings (error code 153) one every 2-3 seconds constantly over two days. I picked out a few random ones and every single one of the errors has this code in the binary:
0000: 0004010F 002C0004 00000000 80040099
0010: 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000
0020: 00000000 00000000 2A040000
In Bytes
0000: 0F 01 04 00 04 00 2C 00 ......,.
0008: 00 00 00 00 99 00 04 80 ....™..€
0010: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
0018: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
0028: 00 00 04 2A ...*
I am told the bold code represents a timeout + a write error
The details say:
The IO operation at logical block address 0x745b70 for Disk 1 (PDO name: \Device\00000038) was retried.
And disk 1 in my disk manager is the agility 3.
My next step was to dskchk the drive and windows came back with 0 errors.
I then used Hd-tune and crystaldiskinfo to check SMART and no errors and only 1 reallocated sector in over 9.5k hour up time.
I proceeded to bench the speed of the drive using crystaldisk again.
the write speed is similar to others online with the drive @ around 220mb
the interesting note was the write speed on my first bench went down to 22mb/s!!
Subsequent benches after that the write speed rose to around 80mb/s which is similar to to others with the drive.
Benching the Samsung brought in consistent results in all tests.
I have used the tips given on various forums to help E.g turn off pci-e power saving settings in power management etc.
I was getting a storachi (code 129) error as well but very seldom - i used a fix i found only for that so since then the error has gone..
So I am at a point I don't know where to go from here, with your experience dose this sound like a dying SSD to you or am I missing something?
I don't want to throw it out if its a simple fix.
hanks for your time!
