SSD optimization and space

HI all,

I've recent reinstalled win7 on both my PC's on to SSDs. My main pc has a 128 gb drive which is fine, my back up on has a 64gb.

I'm having serious trouble though, there was only 15.4 gb free on the drive a couple of days ago and today it is down to 15.0.

I have moved all the user folders off the C drive except appdata, as I've learnt this can cause more problems than it solves.

Any idea how come I'm leaking space every day? I'm not installing anything or downloading anything to the C drive.

Any advice would be grand!

Use a program like WinDirStat to see what's using the space. Sounds like normal behaviour though when you consider Windows updates, system restore etc.

It's likely to be a combination of temp files, windows updates and system restore points that's consuming the space (disc clean up can clear everything out as long as you go through clean system files option you get after the first scan which includes the ability to remove all but the most recent system restore point which could give you back around 4GB in hard drive space).

I clawed back 5 gb lol, from system restore and set it's limit to less, but I haven't installed anything since and I've no idea why it's using 200-300 meg a day. Is this windows not cleaning up its temp files properly?

*off to read about disabling the hibernation file*

Everything I can think of -

clean up system files/updates (disk cleanup)
page files
hibernation files
system restores
temp files - not just those in temp folders, lots of my apps seem to have their own little 'folder' tucked away
'extracted' files for driver installs (nvidia/amd are dreadful for this) and program updates (I've got 800mb autodesk 'update' folder for example)
