Behind you... Naked!
With so many SSDs out there now and the prices looking very nice ( well, some ) I have decided to change all the C: Drives in my kids PCs to SSD.

So, I will be looking at 60GB ones... They are only for Windows and their current Hds will be changed back into single partitions for their games.

My own PC is running 2 old OCZ 32GB SSDs in RAID and its been fun but ultimately useless and so my Laptops are getting those and I am thinking of getting myself a new SSD too!

The thing is that I am utterly torns are to which ones to get.

What do you lot recommend?

I will be buying 5 of them, so I would prefer cheap, or rather inexpensive... I want quality too.

My current 2 are OCZ and I canot fault them even if they are not as fast as I expected them to be so I am leaning away from OCZ, Im looking at the kingston or even the Corsair ones... Are these any cop?

What do you suggest?

M4, everyone uses them without issues.

The new Samsung 830's (64 / 128 / 256GB). Samsung makes good SSDs.

1 x Samsung 256GB SSD 830 Notebook/Apple Series SATA 6Gb/s KIT with Norton Ghost - (MZ-7PC256N/EU) £153.95
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CT128M4SSD2) £99.95
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 64GB 2.5 SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CT064M4SSD2) £67.99
1 x Samsung 64GB SSD 830 Desktop Series SATA 6Gb/s KIT with Norton Ghost - (MZ-7PC064D/EU) £53.99

I would go with the bottom one if you want 64GB for cheap. 128GB, I would take the M4 (I have two of them). 256GB, well the samsung is unbeatable value for money really.

In order of track record / reliability, Intel, Samsung, Crucial.

if i was in your position, i'd get the samsung 64gb.
between the crucial m4 and the sansung 830 the performance isnt much different, coming from a hdd...they're all comparatively faster than a hdd by 100000x
and i'd pocket 70quid in savings buying 5 samsungs compared to 5 crucial

The 256MB is certainly a lovely one however, for me, utterly way over my needs.

Under my wants, of course ( lol ) but over my needs

60GB/64GB is more than enough. as I said, its for C: and I install everythign o D: bar windows and utilities like AntiVirus, Defraggers and so on

My Laptops are never used for anythign more than piddling about and I have one with XP and the other with Linux and both can work more than happily with a 30GB SSD so thats fine by me.

I think what I will do, is simply buy one Crucial and the others samsung.

The kids are 13 and 2x14 so they quite likely wont know any difference knowing them ungrateful buggers.

Many thanks lads.

I highly recommend putting 128GB SSD's in your kids PC's

As they fill up 64GB ones in no time with all the rubbish kids of that age download...
And you can't really expect them to keep an eye on the free space every minute..

P.S
have a look how much space is used up on there C:\ drives now to get a rough idea of what size SSD you will need for them ;)
