I've been looking at this 30GB SSD as its so cheap right now, just to stick the OS on, it should be just about enough for Win7 x64. However, as a friend pointed out to me, what about later versions of windows? Won't they be larger? And he had a point, I'd hate myself if I bought an SSD only for win8 not to be able to fit onto it. Equally, I don't restart my PC all that often, so bootup time isn't a massively huge issue, its more for speeding up the day-to-day usage of the OS.
My mobo can do RAID, so I thought about some kind of RAID might be similar in speed as well as giving space to install a couple of games for the speed boost and future proofing size.
But after some more looking around, and at around a £60-70 budget there seem to be three options.
Option A: For SSDs there's the Intel 40Gb or the Vertex 2 50Gb drives.
Option B: Two Barracuda 320GB drives in RAID0
Option C: Momentus XT 250GB hybrid drive.
Which would be the best pick? The SSDs have the larger size, so the OS shouldn't be so much of a problem in the future, and probably have the fastest read speed overall. The RAID0 drives have the capacity, but I'm not sure how fast the read speeds would be compared with the SSDs. And the hybrid sits in the middle, while being slightly more expensive.
What's the best option? I'm leaning towards option C, as it would give SSD performance with some HD capacity, but with only 4GB of actual flash memory, would it give that much of a speed boost? Especially if I don't restart all that often?
