I'm ordering my new build next week and I will be adding an SSD. However, I keep reading stuff about TRIM, firmware glitches in windows 7 and controller problems. I don't understand much of it and it's putting me off. Can anyone put my mind at rest? which SSD manufacturer is closest to solving these issues? I will be using windows 7 64.

I have heard that I can't treat it like a normal drive or it will slow down. I quite like to format and reinstall windows once every couple of months (OCD) so is this going to be a problem? When I get it next week should I wait for a TRIM update before installing? Can you restore a drives original speed by formatting?

Sorry for so many questions!

now it looks like the X25-M wont get TRIM!!!!!!!!

I'm not used to knowing so little about computer hardware but SSD's are completely new to me.

Thanks for your help in advance.

The X25-M's ARE getting TRIM, but tbh they do internal garbage collection anyway so its kind of un-needed.

Ok thanks. 2 questions that aren't covered. Should I use AHCI mode? and can you restore the original speed of the drive after use?

Yup, mine is running on AHCI right now :D
As for restoring the speed, you can apparently use Wiper.
But as I said, the Firmware on the new Intels does this for you in the background anyway.
