100% this, the PCIE drive is totally best for your OS and main applications
 
Just want to make sure i make the right choice as i will not be looking to buy another SSD for a while after this purchase.
 
I have had one a week or two and set it as the boot drive. It is faster than the M500 I was using but it was not that noticeable. Software loads fast but the main thing with the Intel 750 is IOPs and latency, so if you use software that is IOPs heavy it will make a big difference. It would probably reduce game loading/installing times so would be good for that but you could get a 1TB SSD for the same price and install a lot more games to it and it would still be fast. I got the Intel 750 because I run IO limited software and for that it is the best.
 
For storage games, i would go for highest GB/£ Sata SSD.....The current premium for pcie ssd is hard to justify unless you are hammering your ssd more than loading and saving games id suggest. You enjoy the space more than performance if budget is constrained otherwise.

you could have double the capacity with a regular ssd and it's just a storage/gaming drive you won't notice the speed.
you will notice the capacity since some games are already 50gb installs now
 
I'm not sure the premium is worth if even for an OS drive to be honest, it's over double a 500GB Samsung 850 Evo. I'm not convinced most people will notice the difference either.

Prices will come down fast on PCI-E drives I would have thought.

hoping so,

another poster said he did notice the difference in boot speed and game load times on the sm951 from a previous generation sata ssd...alhtough it seems a bit of a luxury compared to running out of disk space which would be a PITA.

For sure...Not running out of space is more important than shaving off a few seconds, but when the premium for the performance is under 25% i would bite its hand off. Its difficult to value the current premium if trying to be sensible with money.

Depends on what you want / what you have already.

For example... I already had a 250GB Samsung 830, then got 2x 480GB Intel 730s while they were on that silly cheap offer and a spare 120GB kingston that's sitting in the PC too...

So the next logical step was Samsung SM951 or Intel 750 ;)

I'm happy with the 951 and do notice a speed improvement over using either the 250 830 or 2x Intel 730s in Raid 0.

It's the IOPs increase and latency decrease.

Maybe not everyone will notice... but my computer is still too slow for me even with 4.5GHz 5820, low latency ddr4, sm951 & 144Hz monitor...
