Right now I have a 512gb mx100
And big mechanical for temporary films

The eventual plan is 2x512 in raid 0
In addition to this is it better to have the os on this or on single drive with better access times

In thinking for the os I don't care about write at all really
It will house Office, photoshop etc etc but I won't save anything apart from installs to it

Is there a 128gb hdd that is geared to performance over size?
Unfortunately I know I loose some ssd attributes simply going smaller. But I thought these were sequential as opposed to access

hmmm funny I have a mx100 512 installed at home and couldn't pass up a good deal on another ...
was debating about raiding them myself but thought hmmm hassle and don't you need to reinstall everything to raid 0? and let alone any probs then you lose the data.

not sure what you are asking for about a 256 size drive ... the crucial 256 wont be as good as a Samsung at that size.

For me personally I have my OS and all my progs on the 1 512 and going to use the other for my often used drive ... people suggest not doing that because you can wear out a ssd - but read the articles on ssd longevity and if I wrote 5 gigs to the drive everyday I think it would last 280+ years ...

anyways ...

keep my abreast if you raid them because maybe ill change my mind and do the same thing.

I will definitely be raiding these drives myself
I have never lost raid 0 array except by my own fault and I think the failure rate is blown out of proportion

II'm aware you loose performance in some areas with raid 0
I think those areas maybe access time
And that is why I thought a separate ssd world be good for these tasks

What I struggle with is what exactly benefits what

Os/apps (photoshop etc) - I'm guessing they benefit from access time and random read - 1 drive?
Game maps etc - I'm guessing benefit from sequential read - raid 0 is best

I would put games and pictures on raid array
Os/apps on single drive

Or everything on raid 0 array

My overall question is - is it worth having os and apps on small non raid array to maximize access time and random read

One issue is that a smaller drive losses the benefits of parallelism too

so is that right you would need to do a clean install onto the raid array to set this up?
was trying to find some benches and access time scores for a raided mx100 512 but couldnt find any.

Id try to find out the access time of the mx100 raided and if it isnt that bad - just stick it all on the 1gig space you will have.

perhaps I should set up the same thing ...

Yeah these benches are hard to find

II would probably do a full reinstall. Don't know if you HAVE to
