a friend has this, and he recommended it:

Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive [£90].
a kingston 250gb was around half the price, but well reviewed.

i just need some people to weigh in so i can make some decisions about what ssd to get.

any recommendations welcome.

It depends what you are using it for, for the OS any SSD will be good. I would look at the MX300 275GB as they are about £62 and they perform ok (I have a 750GB one). I would not pay £90 for a 250GB SATA SSD, they should be £60 or less at this point.

i will be using it for games, as i am in the process of buying a new pc.

i have bought another hdd 1tb for everything else not games-related.

atm, i am using a kingston 240gb ssd forc games, browsing, music etc in my current pc.

should i be avoiding doing anything else not games-related on this current ssd, as i was reading up on write cycles diminishing it's shelf life?

They are nice drives, I use a pair, but I would up the capacity to say 500GB. There are other drives that will offer a broadly similar real world experience, in higher capacities and only a incremental cost. 750 Evo comes to mind for £130 for 500GB or MX300 as already suggested is £120 or so for 525GB.

Games and the OS, right?

250GB is too small these days. Get 500GB+

Agreed. I went 250gb a year or so ago and felt it was big enough (just for games. i have another 250Gb SSD for OS and programs) It isnt. I have to shuffle games on and off my mechanical drives.

Once games came out like GTA V which is 56Gb from memory it soon goes.
