Q1. What has happened in the last few weeks to cause SSD prices to tumble?

without looking at that link im guessing its due to newer tech about to be released,if only this price war would rub off onto the mechanical hdd markets

from that link
A number of channel retailers, which usually sell commodity memory products including flash drives and memory cards, recently began to offer SSDs, the sources observed. Some of the leading SSD producers are concerned about inferior products that might disrupt development of the market, and therefore have resorted to price-cutting measures to force the retailers to leave the market, the sources indicated.

Kingston Technology, Intel, OCZ and Crucial are identified as the ones lowering SSD prices.

Well let's hope the price war isn't over before next month, 'cos I'll be getting another when I'm paid at these prices.

HOORAH! for affordable SSDs.

Indeed, I'd like to get one for my main system and my laptop at these sort of prices... or cheaper :P

Could also be a set up to bring out new drives with 20nm NAND and new controllers at similar price points to what existed before the price drops.

I tell you what I think; it's all nonsense - new SSD controllers on the horizon, so they're all selling them off to clear stock.

Just a wild guess!

It all because i bought a couple of 128GB M4's at there high prices so the price drops big time just afterwards to make me go mad...;)

This is probably the most reasonable reason. Sods law sucks. And I can relate to this too as I bought a 128GB m4 for ~£150 6 or 7 months ago :o

I think I paid that earlier this year for a customer's upgrade.

I still think that £150 for an 128GB SSD give you a lot for your money.

£90 ? It would be rude not to.
