Is it just me or have the prices plummeted recently?

I have just bought a 120gb for only £79.99. First time I have seen them less than £1 per gig.

Pricing has been relatively gradual, declining month by month.

Demand is now higher due to people opting for SSD's as their boot drives over mechanical drives (due to price increase), as such I suppose are being mass produced to the extent that allows manufacturers to reduce the price which benefits the end user.

Also the main manufacturers such as Crucial, OCZ and Intel have been trying to price out their lesser known competitors by offering their more well known and 'superior' product for less.

Great for the end user periodically until choice becomes somewhat less apparent. Bit like the AMD/Nvidia battle.

Have you guys got SSD's? Hopefully get mine tomoz so cant wait to get it in there!

Large drives aren't getting any cheaper. 480Gb drives should be around £350 mark by now and it's just not happening. :(

£350? Really?
£400 seems more realistic, but although they aren't as cheap as that, they're getting cheaper

yes. Going purely on £/GB of the 120gb drive (67p/GB), the 480gb should wor out to £321.60

Ofcourse you still have fixed costs to deal with, so £350 doesn't seem to be too far fetched.

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong?

Prices have been gradually declining - just checked crucial m4's via one of the sites that tracks prices and 128GB and 256GBs were dropping £10 and £20 every month and a half since January but then suddenly dropped by another 320 and £40 respectively around the start of this month .... so its a gradual decline followed by a recent plummet!

The 256GB M4 was available for less than £155 this weekend. I was slightly tempted, but prices do seem to be on a steady downward trajectory. I'm not sure how long prices will continue to fall, or by how far, but I can still manage with 80GB, so the credit card remains in the wallet, for now.
