when you install the os on a ssd, the default drive is C
how do you go about having your games and bigger programes etc stored on the other drive ? and them being able to load up from desktop C to location drive D ?
whats the best advice you can give me on setting up my ssd 40gig intel with win764, layout of folders etc etc

When you install the game it will ask you where you want to install it to, the default is usually in c:\program files\game_developer\game_name, just change this to d:\game_name

Just install the games to another drive as posted above. With 40GB of space you should be good to install applications on the SSD too. Installing them elsewhere kind of defeats the purpose of having an SSD IMO.

Games don't benefit so much but applications will really fly if you run them from the SSD. Even slugs like Photoshop will launch in eye blink time. My own system is fairly application heavy since I do use it for work as well as play, and I'm currently using only 20GB of the OS volume.

Also when installing games, some won't prompt you for the file location unless you click for a custom setup.

ok so ive just installed an update version on windows 7 on my new ssd
i still have my samsung 500gig with the same OS, that has all my games and progs etc etc
is there a way to limk my ssd with the stuff already on the 500gig drive
stuff like my pre installed apps and a few games etc etc or will i have to reinstall them ?

Re-installing your games and apps will be your best bet. If you backed up the game registry entries then *sometimes* you can get away it but you'll probably spend hours just trying to get a few to work. Applications for the most part will be a no go since they usually create bazillions of registry entries, file associations, register services and dll's, copy additional files to the windows folders, your user profile, etc, etc ... you get the idea. Save time now and re-install them would be my advice.
