hi i am going to be buying a second ssd to raid with the one i already have i was wondering does the ssd have to be the same make and model or can they be different as long as the capacity and speed are the same. the ssd i already have is a hyper x 3k and also i was wondering how to reinstall windows as i have upgraded my windows 7 to 10 do i reinstall 7 back on then upgrade to 10 again

many thanks

Adam

I had raid on my setup for a while did not seem any faster and boot times were nearly doubled due to the raid bios doing its stuff,

I was using 2 x 256GB MX100s and it is better that they match but it would likely still work with similar capacities. Generally felt faster but not night and day. Biggest benefit was when I was simultaneously downloading, expanding files and transferring to backup which I do regularly. The writes didn't slow down as much as a single SSD.

As far as I'm aware if you download a recent Windows 10 ISO/USB you should be able to activate it just with the Windows 7 key.

sweet thanks for the info i needed some more ssd space as i only have 120gb and games keep getting bigger and bigger i have a hdd as storage but i like to have my games on ssd probs doesn't make much difference in loading time but its just my pref lol and i don't think the hyper x 3k is in production anymore

^^ Neither was my 2nd MX100 when I looked to go RAID. I bought one off Ebay and despite the seller describing it as low usage, only used in a spare latop etc. which I knew would be a blatant lie. It just happened to have almost the same usage in hours and ~5TB of writes recorded in the diags (CrystalDiskInfo) as my primary drive which I've been using for almost 2 years.

Never had a problem and it's now serving as the main drive in an upgraded laptop.

After a bit more research i think I'm going to just get a bigger single ssd as the hyperx 3k 120gb are still at £70 and I can get a 240gb hyperx savage for £80 unless anyone has a better ssd suggestion?
