ssd raid mixed SSd's

Looks like nobody has done a set up like this. It might work but no one knows for sure whats gonna be the effect on both drives as they have different controllers.

I reckon that this should work ok, but the reads/writes that you get will be the lowest values between the 2 SSDs...not worth RAIDing them as you will notice no real life performance increase, really just a bit of hassle for no real return!

jbloggs, when you say the lowest values between the two SSDs do you mean that the performance will be a doubling of the slower of the two?

I just wonder because I've got a Crucial M225 64Gb and an OCZ Vertex 2 64Gb and was planning to RAID them. I can't afford to buy another SSD to match two identical drives so was hoping that this config would give results not too much lower.

Has anybody actually tried anything similar? Did it really give no performance increase?

You will see a speed increase, but it will be double the lowest denominator. Well, this is true of mechanical drives. You can try with the two SSD's, but that would be my expected outcome.

Increased speed, yes. Double the speed of the slowest, maybe.

Yes, that's what I'm hoping for - even double the speed of the slowest drive is still bloody fast!

I'll try and come back with some benchmarks on what happens with this...
