Hi all!,

Ive got a quick question I just wanted to check in with you guys, I have the Corsair Force 3 120gb SSD atm, with this mobo http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1366/P6X58DE/#specifications, I was wandering if i could raid 0 my SSD with this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-000-SD? Would this work with my current mobo and SSD combination? I know it has 2 sata 6 slots available but do i need to get the exact same SSD to raid?

This will be my first time setting up a raid, so just wanting some advice!

Cheers! :)

Motherboard hosts the ICH10R controller so will be fine.

Just hook up the two identical drives, select RAID in the BIOS, save then press CTL-I as it boots and select your RAID attributes there. Was the arrary has been created, install windows as normal. The system will see it as one large array.

Do you actually need the speeds raid offers? I only ask this as your performance in raid will drop off on the force 3 as the drive is filled as trim is not supported in raid. You'd need drives with built in background garbage collection to maintain the drives.

you don't get trim in raid but you will get garbage collection with 2 force 3's in raid.that does a good job of keeping them running well

I don't any personal experience of the force 3 but the garbage collection doesn't seem to work particularly well going by this test

Look at the 30mins idle bar here, shows the effect of the background garbage collection compared to a fresh or post trim drive. The Corsair perf pro and plextor (pretty much the same drive with minor firmware differences) show great garbage collection, almost as good as trim.

i've had my 2 force 3 in raid 0 for about a year and i noticed no slow down.and atto is still showing the same speeds as i got with a fresh install.so in my experience garbage collection is doing it's thing well
