SSD read and write speed question\help

Hello All,

I have this SSD

Samsung Evo SSD 840 250GB

link - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-168-SA

and this motherboard

Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard

link to specs - http://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/P6X58DE/specifications/

below is my issue.

I have had the drive for 5 months now and I have had no issues at all with it, drive is great but the read and write speeds are quite poor.

I have been looking in to the issue and found its down the Marvel controller for the sata 3 ports used on the board and read that these are quite poor as the use a 1x lane so cannot reach the true speeds for the SSD.

when I use the intel (sata 2) connections my read and write speeds are read - 285mb and write speed is 250mb

even though the Marvel controller (sata 3) are not very good I do see a improved read speed and get the following speeds read 410mb and write remains the same 250mb

to test the speeds I used the Samsung software provided with the drive and the firmware is all up to date. (Rapid Mode not enabled)

if I wanted to get the full read and write speeds what would my options be? all the X58 boards use the same controller (again from what I have read) so speeds would be the same if I changed the board for any other.

I have looked at the PCI E option but cannot find a card that can handle the full read and write speeds. ACHI is enabled, drive connected to SATA 3 port and OS optimised for the SSD, done through the software.

any help or advise would be great.

thanks a lot

you'd need a mb with intel sata 3 ports, that would be z68 onwards

sata 2 and marvell sata3 are fine on that board tbh,i doubt you'd notice any different with true rated sata 3 speeds

enabling Samsung rapid mode might help

I did look in to enabling this but I read a lot that the speeds where not true speeds of the drive and where false speeds.

the issue is that my CPU (I7 950) its a socket LGA1366 and don't think any Intel sata 3 come with that socket on. ill have a look about and see if any do, quick google didn't come back with any

no they wont arrive till p67 onwards,

x58 always had the slower performing marvell sata ports, rapid mode might benefit you on those ports though and sata2
