SSD really needed for gaming?

I would say it all depends how much money you have. SSDs cost a lot so make a lot more sense if you don't require as much storage. If you require more storage you have to ask you self is it really worth it.

1Tb HDD £36
2x 500Mb HDDs RAID 0 £70
1Tb hybrid HDD/SSD £68
2x 500Mb hybrid HDD/SSD RAID 0 £100
1Tb SSD for £270

If money is no option SSD but if your on a budget I suspect most wold prioritize things like the CPU and GPU.

You dont need a 500gb SSD, most people use a small one and put only the games which have long loading on them. The OP is only after a 240gb and the fact he is considering one means he can afford it. If he was dissatisfied with his GPU or CPU i assume he would have thrown that into the thread.

needed for gaming? only if you have money to burn

big map loading games will benefit slightly, but mostly theres not much difference other than the silence of an ssd vs a mechanical hdd

plus the size of the games these days a 1tb ssd would soon fill up vs a cheap 2 or 3tb hdd

you can mostly make do with your most played games installed on your os ssd

World of Warcraft modded up teh wazu as soon as you see the bar go up on an SSD oh my god that feels sooooo good.

First time I logged into WoW after putting it onto an SSD 3 years ago it went from being around 1m 30s loading bar time to about 10-20 seconds/

Thanks everyone for the great advice! I'm going to get one now for two games that I play a lot and maybe out my os on it too. What size memory do you suggest?
