Hi

Always resisted the temptation to SSD but being a gamer i have noticed sometime games can wait on seek time from the OS.

From reading other threads and (including my friends) it is highly recommend for performance boost. I am not going to move my game partition over, so really looking for a 120Gb SSD to move my OS partition over to help with the bottleneck seek time. Can anyone recommend a good make 120GB SSD, bang for buck.

Thanks
Kyo

It's older, its not bad but for proven reliability I'd pick the Samsung tbh

Ok thanks mate, will go for Samsung then, the only real concern, SSD degrade over time?

unlike mechanical drives they have shorter lifespan right? How long should SSD last for roughly?

It should last you 9years plus imo

It shouldn't degrade if it has a good enough controller to maintain the drive and decent nand memory which the Samsung has

that is really good advice, think i am going to go for the samsung one, Cant wait now :D

Need to buy a bracket and work out where to fit . thanks for all the help

Cheers :)

I have a crucial M500 960gb. Fast enough, notice little difference from my old agility 3 120GB. Cheaper than the rest also. Certainly recommend going for at least 500GB + if installing games. Titles like titan fall, BF4 are pretty hefty now

Fitted a Samsung, will never use anything else slower again.

Outside of benchmarks, can you actually tell any difference??

I've got a 256gb Samsung 830 in my desktop and 480gb Crucial M550 in my laptop and they perform identically imo!

SSDs last longer than mechanical HDDs not shorter. The pattern is different so they could last less time but on average they are longer lived by a significant margin.

Right my Samsung 840 120GB SSD just got delivered. I think i am going to just clone my OS partition onto it.

Is the best way, fit it first and then run the software that comes with it?

Cheers

Thanks found that software. I see my OS is split between 2 partition.

* C Drive OS partition 67Gb
* Small 100mb System Reserved partiton.

Would i need to worry about cloning the system reserved partiton? If that is the case then i would have make a small 100mb partition for that?

it should clone the whole disk, you'll need the small partition as it includes the boot record,it wont bootup without it
