Hi, I am looking at investing in a cheap SSD. Samsung 120GB vs OCZ Vertex 180GB. They are the same price (£79.99). I've never bought anything from OCZ before, which would you guys recommend?

Thanks
Al

How do you come to this conclusion? both on paper are as fast as eachother, and in the real work will you be able to see any advantage from one to the other? I would bet if you didn't know which one you had booting your PC you wouldnt know the one from the other.

Just a thought.

It down to reliable not performance. OCZ is worse than Samsung in a long term stable and reliable. Mine OCZ had died after 5 months. Not buying it ever again from OCZ.

My OCZ Vector while a fab drive performance wise, just died after 2 months of use. Several of their drives seems to be plagued by this random bug in their firmware and while there is a firmware update on the way it seems it will take a while. Some rep on their support forum said something about being less than 1% of the returns was to this bug. Still annoying :) hopefully in my case since the retailer isn't selling the 256gb version I had I might be upgraded to a 512 :P..

I've never used Samsung Pro but have been using Vertex 4 for over a year and no problem at all :)

But I only used it for my OS but not games, and they perform very well tbh

I've used my Vertex 4 for OS and steam and it has been flawless.

Samsung or Crucial are the drives of choice if you want an SSD.

If for some reason you must have a Sandforce drive, I've heard the Intel ones are better for reliability than most, but can still have problems.

samsung (at least non pro)are cheapest at the moment as they are using triple cell layer flash chips, denser chips at less cost. They beleive they can make this theroretically less robust tech work.

Long term reliability is yet to be established! OCZ seem more often than not to have fouled up with controllers and firmware

Vote for Samsung - got 2, one in my laptop and one in my PC, very quick, great reliability so far, no issues at all! :)

My OCZ drive had blue screens from day 1, a firmware update sorted it but I'll always be a little wary of them.
