Ok i got a vertex 3 120gb coming and at the moment my motherboard is a sata 2 Gigabite EX58 UDR3. The reason i got a sata 3 SSD before people start freaking out is because it probably won't be long before I get new motherboard and instead of me buying a SATA 2 one now then being gimped when I get a sata 3 motherboard i would future proof myself a bit.

Anyway I'm going to run the vertex 3 through my sata 2 connections. But have been looking at some SATA 3 controller cards such as:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CC-004-SR&groupid=701&catid=49&subcat=424

The only free PCI E slots I have are PCI E x1. As my HD5950 direct CUII takes up 3 bays and cover my x4 and other x16.

Just wondered what your thoughts were on contorller cards I read speed increases from Sata 2 ports but I also have read about a PCI E x1 having limited through put.

Will it give me a boost in perforamance? Also can a PCI E x1 slot be 2.0 or are they always 1.0. I been trying to look up what my ones is but all i can find is information about my x16 one being a 2.0.

Thanks

Ive tried a cheap asm1061 pci-e card in a x4 slot, seq reads went from 280 to 404 in crystaldisk
512 reads went from 259 to 344 rest were basically the same, using a M4.
Although in a x1 gen1 slot it was slower that my sata2 ICH10R

If i were you id stick with sata2 for the time being till you upgrade.
Real world i noticed no difference in speed.
