Help please!

Samsung 830 128 Gb installed for a couple of years as the only drive in a laptop. Recently started showing a warning about "no boot device" and essentially won't fire up. Tried playing around in the BIOS (SSD still shown) and running a disk check but this didn't help.

Took the laptop apart, checked connections, reassembled it, still not joy.

Took the SSD out and connected it to my desktop using the packaged Samsung USB lead. The blue light on the SSD illuminates and the PC makes the "USB device found" sound, however no sign of the SSD appearing as a drive in in This PC. Am I missing something with this stage?

Tried running Samsung Magician but it can't spot it. Any reason to suspect it's anything but dead? Are there any other tests I should run? I suppose I could swap it with an HDD in my desktop if that would prove anything different...

when connected to the PC make sure its not using a drive letter that is already in use. can be checked in disk management.

Samsung software will not detect the drive if its using the USB adaptor that came with the drive but will appear as a drive to access and use like any other external hdd. I had the same issue when trying to do a firmware update using the adaptor but works if connected as a second drive in the PC.

try using HD tune to check the status of the drive once you get it working and see if that finds any issues with it

Leave it unplugged from the laptop for 30 minutes the connect the ssd and try,it sometimes enters freeze state

Using a USB adaptor isn't the best way to test.

Can you not connect it to your desktop via the sata cable and then just look in the bios to see if it's there?

I've put an old HDD in the laptop which now seems to work, although Windows is taking forever to update. Strongly suspect the SSD is toast, but will try swapping it into my desktop when I get time later in the week. Did Samsung give a 3 year warranty?
