I have just treated myself to one of the 60GB OCZ SSD's on special offer today.

Do I need to do anything when I install the drive. My board supports Sata 6GB's do I need to turn it on ? I have a 6GB cable that came with the board so will use that. Is it a case of plug it in install windows and be-done. Will it be ok with my old school sata drives ? Or are them some bios settings I need to fettle to get the best speed....

Cheers

I've heard it best to disconnect all other drives until windows is installed, also make sure once it is installed that defrag isn't set to auto defrag on the ssd.

you can also move things like pictures/documents/desktop to another drive except C: as if your like me always dropping stuf to desktop, it will kill your write speed

Just installing windows on the drive now. I have plugged it in using a sata 6gb's cable it seems all my sata sockets support 6gb's and not just a couple. I enabled achi in the bios so hopefully i'm good to go when windows is done.
Is there any way to tell how fast your sata ports are operating as there does not seem to be any option in the bios about enabling sata 6gb, I presume it's always enabled ?

Windows is now installed and its super quick but HDD tune only shows my max speed as 309mb/sec.. ?
I'm not sure I have sata 6g running but there are no options in the bios that I can find.. ?

Is this a normal speed or should it be more..

Cheers

HDTune uses uncompressible data so it gives slower speeds than the manufacturers spec, Use ATTO to show the "manufacturers spec" speeds as it uses compressible data.

Went through this same thing with my Drive, checked AHCI, Intel RST drivers upto date etc and then discovered the "slow Speed" issues was just from using different testing software to get my speed figures.

545mb read and 445mb write with ATTO... :D
