SSD Storage question...

Hey mates,
I was recently thinking about getting an ssd for storage. My question is, if I do buy one that has the jmicron controller and only use it to store my mp3's on for example, would I still encounter a stutter when accessing these files or is the stutter a result of the OS being on the jmicron ssd's?

it be point less really the whole point off SSD is to speed the system up by a lot, you gain nothing useing it as an storage device

get an HDD for storage (any files) and SSD for OS, programs, Games

just not an JMicron, any SSD that has cache on it, like Corsair S128 is very cheap, or for £100 more or so get ones that are 2x faster in data rate {samsung falcon or vertex in price order}

if its noise your interested in get an WD green HDD or samsung ecogreen as an storage drive (as i just seen you got an vertex drive)
 
Nah it's just that say windows media player comes up fast, but 20gb's worth of music on my hdd pulls up slower and slower the larger the music folder becomes. I want to have windows media player be able to instantly pull music without the waiting. I was thinking that if my music was on even a cheap ssd, it would load dramatically faster.
 
as long as there are not any writes going on you should be ok but but i just checked the cheap SSDs that are selling here and there is no reason to Buy an JMicron drive

i use this drive as my boot drive every thing is fast, funny thing is its £3 cheaper then the kingston one thats most likey an JMicron but mite be samsung (but the kingston is not showing any cache on it so most likely avoided it)

both drives above have no stuttering issues due to the cache
 
Use Winamp instead.

All my music is on a 1.5TB Seagate and with 144Gb I don't have any slow down. Never used WMP so can't say how fast that runs.
 
I'd never use a SSD for a data drive, especially for loading mp3's. You've clearly got more money than sense ;)

If you want a fast drive with space for MP3's get a Seagate 7200.12 500Gb. It's damn quick.

I'm trying to go total ssd... If I was worried about saving a buck I would have an AMD, with a ATI card :p
