Decided to fit an SSD in my Asus 1018p netbook to extend its life a little bit. Did a LOT of reading up on how well SSDs cope next to an Atom processor (N550 in this case) but in the end decided that it was worth a punt since I should see better battery life even if the disk performance isn't that amazing.

Well, I'm not amazed but I am very impressed. I went for the OCZ Agility 3 240Gb drive since I didn't feel it was worth blowing the bank just for a netbook but I do need the storage space. The first one was a dud but the second one cloned up ok and is working a treat. Boot is much faster, it just seems to pop into the OS and it's ready to go straight away. Apps load much faster. Everything seems much much snappier where as with the stock 5400rpm Seagate drive things were like treacle at times.

Trouble is now I have better disk read performance from my netbook than my workstation. Will have to do something about that!

Obviously the writes aren't amazing but they're still double what I had with the mechanical drive. Money well spent for me, highly recommended :)

Good show.

One of the best upgrades a laptop/netbook etc. can have.

Just a shame it doesn't support SATA 3. But then again, I suppose not many laptops/netbooks do. But still a worthy upgrade.

It's almost a shame that netbooks are in decline now that SSDs are cheap, they'd have made a lot more sense with half-decent cheap SSD than a slow 5,400RPM HDD.

I actually had an Acer one a few years back that had an 8GB SSD, but it was was a ridiculously slow one so there was no real benefit.

yeh if it were SATA 3 would give those HDD's a run for their money.

My Tab has a 30GB SSD but its not that noticible tbh.
