Hey, quick question;

If I connect my SSD to a sata 3 port will I experience faster transfer rates than a SATA2? Where's the bottleneck? (sata1 etc)

ALSO

I see some sites advertising SATA3 cables? Are they any different from SATA2/SATA1? Or just for sales.

Thanks

Hard to say since you haven't told us what SSD you have or which controllers are available. If we assume for now you have a SATA2 SSD and Intel SATA2 / Marvell SATA3 controllers (being the most common) then I'd actually recommend using the Intel controller for better performance. If your SSD is SATA3 then bit of a no-brainer to use a SATA3 controller really, unless it's something of exceptionally low quality (like a JMicron) then it's just a matter of comparing performance through benchmarking, etc.

If your SSD is a Sata 3 drive like the crucial C300 then using a Sata 3 port will be faster then a sata 2 port. I have one that on Sata 2 give 285mb/s read and 375+mb/s on a sata 3 port
