Hi,
I've got an MSI P67A-GD65 motherboard (B2 so with the dodgy Sata II ports), currently got a normal HDD connected to one of the Intel Sata 3 ports and my LG BDROM / DVDRW drive connected to the other Intel Sata 3 port, both are in IDE mode at the moment. I'm currently running Windows 8 and have ordered an SSD drive which I should get tomorrow. I understand I really want to be running in AHCI mode and that I have 2 options basically a) Edit the registry to set it to AHCI mode , reboot into the BIOS and change the mode to AHCI then clone my current HDD to the new SSD drive and set that as the first boot device or b) Do a fresh install of Windows 8 to the new SSD by going into the BIOS , changing it to AHCI and installing Windows 8 from scratch. I would prefer to clone my existing drive but I'm a bit confused , if I change the registry settings to AHCI does it affect the 2 Marvell Sata III ports on the motherboard as well or can I leave them in IDE mode? Can I connect my LG BDROM drive to the Marvell Sata 3 ports seeing as I can't use the Sata 2 ports due to the P67 Sata 2 problem? Can I install Windows 8 (I created a DVD from the iso when I first upgraded) on a new SSD and will it activate ok if I do considering I've already activated the product key? Given my hardware with the added complication of the Sata 2 ports not really being usable what would you do in my situation? I'm not completely against doing a fresh install if I have to but I do like the idea of being able to clone my current OS install to the new SSD if I can do that, any advice appreciated
Ta
