SSD Use and Sizing

I am planning on buying one to use as a Win 7 Boot drive, for MS Office, and possibly 3 or 4 games.

Documents etc to be stored on the Hard Drive.

At a guess we are talking 30 Gb max. So I would have thought a 64Gb drive is the right ballpark. Or is it? Any great reasons to future proof and get bigger? Am I missing other uses for it where there is fantastic benefit. I see some people store their browsers on it. Good idea?

fyi - this is part of an upgrade to i5 2500, Asus P7P55D which has 6Gb SATA, 8gb DDR3 RAM.

This was also my thinking, and after allot of reading i ordered a 60GB SSD. They are supposed to be ideal for win7 + a few games, everything else as you say can go on HHDs.

Installing mine tonight!

I went for a bigger one after looking at the 64GB Crucial. I wanted my key apps on there, which I knew would be about 50GB. This didn't leave much spare room on the SSD, and I had heard the garbage collection/performance of the SSD is better if it has some room to operate.

what about pagefiles? I hear some people put that on it, and with 8 Gb of RAm - that could mean 16 Gb of page file (or is it 24?)

You really do not need a page file of that size. Let windows manage the size but you will probably find that with 4gb of ram the page file will be around 2gb. Page file is a buffer as sort remember. Not a constant access.

After install of Win 7 ultimate + Office and a few other bits and bobs I have just over 30GB free (of 55GB formatted) so more than enough for a few choice games etc.
