How much emphasis is put on matching up complimentary chipsets/controllers when looking at mobo's and SSD's.
eg, a previous mobo with sata 6GBit ports and a Vertex3 120gb didn't play nicely together because the sata marvell controller sucked and limited the speed vastly. It's not that it kept crashing, but the speed was woefully lower than it should have been (around 350MB/s reads).
I updated the mobo, used the same SSD and got the full speeds the ssd was capable of (550MB/s) cos the mobo used the intel sata controllers.
That still the same way now?
I'm about to start gathering a mini-ITX gaming rig and will be using a vertex 3 120gb MAX IOPS, but want a mobo with the right controller to give the max speed.
Any input appreciated, thanks.
