I didn't time how long it took me to install W7 on my SSD :(
I've tried to google for times but have only found a time for installing it from a USB stick (10 mins!), not a DVD.

Anyone got any figures they'd like to share?

Dave

It took about 10-12 minutes from DVD for my Crucial M4 64GB. I've done it 3 times and it was always been the same.

My spec is: i5 2500K, 4GB ram, Z68 chipset mobo, Crucial M4 64GB SSD

cant a dvd only be read at a max of 20mb sec though ? surely the dvd speeds would bottle neck the installation anyway.

16x DVD will be up to 22 MB/s (depends on which part of the disc you're reading from). Then again, USB flash drives rarely get more this, especially the cheaper ones, so either way you're limited by the source media during installation.

Win7 on my C300 is about 10-15mins, when I use to have a HDD I had time to watch a southpark episode

I found that the intial setup time (to get to the W7 install screen) via the DVD took forever, well a few minutes. On a USB stick it's a lot shorter. Same for XP too. After all the files have been uploaded, it's plain sailing.

When i've installed same hardware, once with hd andonce with ssd, i found windows setup would hang at one stage, seemingly expanding files, prior to any installation process starting, happened by cd initially and with usb key on second attempt a year later.
Quite unsure why, possibly due to buckets of memory in the machine and something to do with that.

This was the case for me, installing win 7 64 on an ocz vertex 2e took about 15 minutes. My optical drive is a first generation lg blu ray/hd-dvd/rom unit, pretty slow drive.
