SSD with HDD

Just installed OS on a new SSD without using caching this time, so my 'Users' folder is on my SSD system drive. I think this is OK for some files but I know I wont be able to fit everything on the SSD.

Is there a way to extend the SSD 'Users' folder to also make use of the HDD space? Something along the lines of a folder in each user's 'My Documents' folder that relates to storage on the HDD?

What would people recommend not storing on an SSD and having on a HDD instead?

I've done some SSD optimisations using the following guide but would like to figure the best solution for integrating / making best use of the HDD storage.

you can create a documents folder on the hdd and include it in the libraray with your documents on the ssd,or create a link from the ssd/documents to the hdd and it should save there

Thanks for the tip, am just very surprised there isn't a more elegant solution. It ought to be possible to tell the os that you want a drive to be used to provide additional user storage and it produce a folder structure with correct permissions automatically. The permissions on self created folders are not the same as those on the Users folder and sub folders on the system drive so something else to check.

Eh? I don't see your problem mate. :p

Make new folders on your HDD, open up the Library and change the paths to Docs, Music, Videos, etc - job done!

No problems with permissions, something to keep checking, etc...

Never done it so unsure if there would be any complications but you could try mounting a partition of the hdd as a folder through storage management onto the ssd.

Maybe you're the only one using your pc so it might not make any odds in that use case. However, if you create a folder on your hdd it doesn't have the same permissions as a default user folder such as 'my documents', 'my music' etc. I wouldn't want to remap all of those libraries to the hdd either because there are times when you want something you're working on to be on ssd. The point I was making is if you have a few user accounts they should get a folder structure on the hdd which is already tied into libraries with the correct permissions on the hdd folders. It's just not very clear on what the best method for achieving that is and that seems rather surprising to me as I would have thought it would be a key part of an os. Ideally you dont want to set up folders manually for each user as that is just meh.

Thanks, something I'll take a look at. Also found some stuff relating to power shell that may work too, also read something relating to group policy that may be relevant.

Understood mate. Yes I can see how for a chap who has multiple people using the PC, that would be quite a ball ache!

check this beauty out
i was in the same place as the op just over a year ago, wanting an elegant way to integrate a ssd/hdd setup
after a huge amount of searching i found this solution. took me a couple of run throughs before i nailed it (by following the instructions to the very letter) and there it was, sorted
has been running without error for over a year, no issue with adding user accounts/ updates/ nothing
it just works
check it out

Thanks for this, I also found the following which also looks worth a look.
