Got myself a nice new rig from OCuk very impressed with service and delivery.

Installed Win 7 last night got it all up to date, boot time are quicker than the kids PS3 lol.

And windows rated it all.

Now went to install steam for the kids but wanted this on the HDD but first off it could not find the 500GB HDD. I sorted that through disk management and windows now finds it.

But i get an error that i do not have permission to write to disk??

Tried another game Rift - downloaded the client so i got an icon to click but went to update patcher and that said i can not write to disk kind of error.

I am the admin as only one clean install of windows and one user me so far.

Is there something i missed.

TBH i waiting for BF3 so that goes on the SSD and the rest of the software will go on the HDD.

Please help cos i am like a kid in a candy store but the candy is all behind glass locked doors :D

Cheers guys and many thanks OCuk for a sweet rig

Sounds like a permissions error on your old hard drive , can probably be sorted by taking ownership of all the files/folders on your old HD.

Probably best to ask in the windows section of the forum as it's been years since I last did this or if the drive doesn't have anything important on it just remove all the partitions on it and recreate them from under your new SSD windows installation.

If the drive is from an old rig and you want to keep the files you will have to take ownership as above.

If you don't want to keep the files, just format it.

Not sure its a brand new HDD that came with the PC.

I have done nowt with it other than let windows see it in Disk manager

I have not specifically said to format it yet as i though you do not need to for a brand new one.

So get windows to format it and that will give me the rights to it now Win 7 is on the SSD?

Malbec - if there's nothing on the HDD, then you won't lose anything but time by trying that.

Ok i will try that thought there might be something more techy like ticking permissions etc

All sorts of stuff when you google it about making User, Program Files, Program Files (x86) folders on new HDD and then changing Registry settings.

I aint doing that cos im just a dumb old gamer

At work now so that's tonight's job

But if there is anymore advice then please continue with the thread through the day.

Just odd it does not find it all straight away. My last PC had 2 HDD's instead of SSD and HDD and i had no problems at all lol

I know when I first installed Windows 7 I needed to go prodding around in Disk Management to get the second drive to show up. Just a little foible of Windows I guess. Didn't have any trouble with permissions mind, but that could be because I already data on it.
