Its seems that TRIM is always mentioned when an SSD is mentioned.

Vista x64 doesn't support TRIM - Its a Win 7 function only ( Thats my understanding ).

So, any problems/things to look out for when using an SSD with Vista x64, as i'm looking at getting a 64g ( For operating system and a couple of apps+games ) ?

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Cheers.

Reading that, then running an SSD with Vista is pointless !

Is there not any Vista ' TRIM ' software equivalant, just googled and couldn't see anything ?

There must be people using an SSD without Windows 7

Get W7? It's much better than Vista anyway imo.

I recently installed an SSD with W7 and it feels like a clean install every day !! Bliss....

A drive such as the Intels with the toolbox or one of the Indilinx Barefoot drives should be fine on Vista since the toolbox or the Indilinx drives when used with wiper/garbage collection should keep their speed up almost as good as TRIM would.

Crucial Wiper Tool details dated Nov 2009. Don't know if this is both M225 and C300 model ranges. Think M225 range only going by firmware details.
The Crucial Wiper tool for user-initiated Garbage Collection is now available. It is for Windows XP and Vista only, and has been verified to work on firmware version 1571 and 1819

Non-trimmed X25 G1 on XP:

These are AS SSD results over 9 months of Desktop use. 4TB of writes... 96% life left per the Intel tool.

Note how the graph on the right (it started out as the XP drive) really dropped down in performance, and didn't recover until I HDDErased it at the far right. Yet the other X25, used for swap files, kept bouncing back up. I had been trying 'Tony Trim' and other things to get performance up, and I think that messed up the XP drive's ability to GC itself back.
