Hi,
I have a cheap laptop, currently has a 320GB hard disk drive installed which i would like to replace with a solid state drive for 2 reasons,

1) I leave the laptop on a lot of the time, and dont want the hard drive to die on me
2) Faster...

The problem is i have an extremely low budget! (around £40)
All i want is to install Windows 8 Pro (or 7 HP for now) 64-Bit and office 2013 (2012 for now).

products such as this seem increadibly slow, would this be fast enough to out proform a 54007200 rpm hard drive?

Thanks!

32gb is very very small, windows takes up 25gb,why not save up the extra £60 and buy a huge 256gb crucial v4 ssd?

Cheers for the reply.
I would be more inclined to stick to the 32GB and use my memory stick for data, both for cost and that i wont be needing 256GB for quite some time :D
my desktop still has 20GB free and thats got 80 programs installed!

just out of interest, is there any disadvantages (appart from size) on a Corsair 30GB Nova Series 2?

Thanks again mate :)

I wouldn't purchase that drive, especially when for only £7 more you can double your capacity and performance with a well known brand like Crucial.

Using a memory stick as primary storage for your data is a bad idea. Save up the extra £7, get the bigger drive, and then use your memory stick as a data backup drive.

However, if you're determined to ask for advice and then not listen to it, or for some reason you absolutely cannot raise the extra £7, then my advice is to stick with your mechanical drive.

Microsoft say that the minimum footprint is 16GB for Windows 7 on SSD's, so it is doable. But for less than ten pounds you can double your storage capacity, drive performance, probably reliability too, and not have to worry about it.

Wow. brilliant help!
I have decided to drop the 30GB drive.... forget that :D
I dont think i could afford a 120GB in all honesty, but 64GB seems like a happy medium...

i do have a WHS2011 doing all the backup stuff, so data loss isnt a worry with removable storage. so no worries there.

Now chosing between the OCZ Agility 3 60GB (£44.98, from a competitor) or the Crucial V4 64GB (£44.99)

Im not sure what SATA version the laptop has, id assume 3 considering its new, its an ASUS X401U, not the fastest thing in the world.... :D
Thanks guys
