SSD worth it for me?

Looking to get a new PC and wondered if a SSD is worth it for me? Primary SSDs are described as OS drives and are quite small without getting pricey so wouldn't be used for game storage. I don't really mind boot times as I just go away for 5 minutes, are there other advantages I'm not considering? Might be a basic question but I'm not exactly up on hardware .

A PC without an SSD is not worth having. This is because it makes everything wayyyyy snappier.

Capacity depends on what you need... if you can fit all your stuff on an SSD, get the SSD... if you have wayyy loads of stuff, get an SSD for OS/Programs and a HDD for the rest.

For those programs that require a restart such as when installing a fresh OS as well you will be oh so glad you have one mate.

If you dont go overkill on stacking games on the hard drive a 500gb one should suit you nicely for every day use and still enough to fit 5 or 6 50gb games on there but honestly how many are actually 50GB, most are around the 15-30 mark.

ALWAYS get an ssd if you can afford it... seriously they make a bigger difference than just about anything else in the system these days in my opinion, especially in just 'day to day' use.

+1 & it's well worth it especially for a new PC/build. Prices have been dropping e.g. you can get 250GB for less than £70. Also seen 480~512GB ones go for good prices during offers, etc

Unless you're building a very basic, barebones PC for the most undemanding of tasks then an SSD really should be included. Makes a big difference to system performance and responsiveness.

If you leave your PC on 24/7, a SSD drops down the priority list.

On the flipside, whereas I used to leave the PC on all weekend when it had a mechanical drive, I now switch it off at night because it boots very fast.

They save power when the PC is on, they also enable power savings due to it not being such a chore to wait for the machine to boot, so my system gets more downtime.

However, your point is 100% valid for people who run their systems 24/7.

I'd definitely advise you to get an SSD OP. It's probably the single component that makes the biggest difference to how quick your PC feels, more so than even a new CPU (as long as you're not still rocking a Pentium II).

Ok thanks for all the advice, you've sold me. 500gig SSD for games with a mechanical drive for storage on my list. Thanks again.
