SSD write wear?

Hi everyone, recently got an SSD, just a small 30gb one to keep my OS on along with some essential programs. One thing I notice is that the space available keeps fluctuating even though I'm not saving anything to the SSD. I assume this is temporary files being written and I just wanted to know if this will do any damage over time?? I've read a lot about trying to reduce writes to an SSD!

Every time you surf the internet, you're getting about 10 to 20 MB's of temp files. Windows 7 is also writing down log files every few minutes. That and other applications that you used also write some temp files. Pagefiles and system restore write as much as well.
Solutions? download and install CCleaner and run it everytime you're done using your computer or better still, google how to move temp files to your hard disk and minimize pagefiles.

For a desktop usage pattern, the write cycles of a consumer grade MLC will be perfectly adequate for 3-10 years of usage.

You only need to worry if you're running something write intensive - typically anything database or file server related, for instance.

Give the Drive Cleanup tool a run every now and then as well (Start menu/Accessories/System Tools).

That'll safely remove some other temp files that are just sat there, and will probably pick up some things that CCleaner (as mentioned above and worth using) doesn't.
