Hi I am very interested with SSD's but I am not sure which one to get.

I found the Intel X25-M 80gb for £148 + £13 for p&p from the US is this a good price? and what is its performance like?

I would also like to know any other recommendations that are ~£160. Preferable 64gb+

Might be worth paying the little extra (10-20 quid) to get it from a uk shop... if it goes wrong, your warranty may well be invalid if purchasing from the states!

The x25-m g2 is definitely the best in that price range.

Don't you need to pay 17.5% VAT on top of that £161?

But anyway, the 80Gb x25-m would be a good choice in that price range.

Ok thanks I will buy one from OCUK.

Another question for the same price I could get 2 150gb velociraptors. If I put them into RAID 0 would they be equally as good or is the SSD still better?

Of course I will also be getting a WD BC 1tb for storage and games :P

Personally I'd go with the Corsair Reactor 60GB rather than the x25-m. cheaper per GB, same read speed and has a faster write.

although I prefer 80 as a number than 60

I don't think warranty would be the issue just the customs and taxes that is put on to prevent you from saving money. I remember i bought 5 tshirts from the states and they wanted more money in customs duty that the tshirts cost...

i noticed that the SSD in the states were FAR cheaper than in the uk, about half the price. :(

Chances are mate, when it ships through you might probably get the 17.5 VAT charge by customs. Double check before you get it. Personally, i'd just get it from OCUK. The price difference is relatively small Plus you get OCUK's customer support/warranty etc.

to me 50% isn't that small especially if 17.5% is added on its still a fair saving.

Depends who ships it and what it's declared as... not worth the risk though... plus it's no always just VAT, there's customs duty which is a seperate thing.

This can be extortionate on things like alcohol especially... never imported any computer bits... but I did have a box of rum shipped over from the carribean... customs theives wanted 20 quid per litre of 40% alcohol + 17.5% vat (they were 12x litra bottles!)... the rum only cost 15 quid + 30 shipping... ridiculous!

Better sequential read-write speeds... so if you were copying a lot of large video files then the raptors might be a bit quicker.

However, for general desktop use, games etc... even a cheap SSD will wipe the floor with a pair of raptors.

The sequential read/write speeds might be a bit higher... but that does NOT mean the drive performs better / feels better under use.

The important thing to look for with SSDs is the 4k random read/write speeds... they're what can really hold up an SSD...

Although, I'm struggling to find a review of the reactor... so I can't compare its performance to the intel drive
