Hi,

Just spent the afternoon washing the car, pleased with the result compared to how she looked before, no pre wash photos though im afraid.

Freshly cleaned and conditioned leather...looks much better...

My Mintex disks have been bugging me for weeks, the hubs rusted like mad so i decided to put an end to it and painted them black. While at it i also painted the callipers silver. I used Hammerite Smooth paints for future reference.

Photos don’t really do them justice, but looks so much better than rusty hubs and faded black callipers. Also seems to make the disk/calliper look much larger than before:

Changed the standard ST170 gear knob to one from a ST220 pretty much as soon as i got the car, as the standard knob was badly scratched and the paint chipping away. ST170 gear knobs are around £100 to replace though so i was going to buy an ST220 knob for £30 from Ford, until ppcall of Ford ST Owners Club kindly sent me brand new one he had lying around for FREE! Bargain or what? I also think the 220 knob looks a lot more modern than the one which came on the ST170 out of the factory.

The ST170 came as standard with a 6disk ford cd player, unfortunately some kind sole had swapped it for a single disk player somewhere along the way. I bought a replacement 6 disk player off eBay which was faulty on arrival...paypal sided with the seller so I was left £90 out of pocket

Eventually I ordered an Alpine 9856R from Car Audio Security which is still only single disk but does have mp3 support. Pleased with how this looks and blended in very well with the dash with illuminating green.

Finally...she’s tucked up inside the garage for the night now on the freshly painted garage floor lol.

That’s it for now, i have some goodridge braided brake lines waiting to go on soon, if anyone around Staffordshire way has fitted these to an ST170 before and fancies earning a few ££ fitting mine please feel free to get intouch.

Enough chat anyway, thanks for looking and please post your opinions :)

^yup looking into getting a 206/clio rear wiper when i get round to it

^^ its not come of...just misshapen lol 2 of the center caps need replacing at somepoint in the near future.

For some reason it really bugs me seeing cigarette lighters with the symobls upside down, not the right way up

OCD

Looking very tidy, I'm not sure about the gearknob though, doesn't really suit imo.

possibly stolen, although they were like that when i bought the car...used to haggle a few ££ of.

lol defo OCD...although i did toy with the idea of replacing the cigarette lighter with a start button for a while...but apart from novelty value it has no real use.

i was a little uncertain on the gear knob at first, but i prefere it now..much easier to drive with. the st170 one had a metal top and was bloody freezing in winter lol

I think, considering i dont and never will smoke, i'll just get one of the 12v Covers Ford do (when i get my car, obviously.)

Gearknob looks *ok* just a little out of place seeing as its a different silver to that on the dash.

Looks nice chap. :)

It will be worth getting a power run before and after you mod the engine. These seem to put out +/- 20 bhp from standard, so if you have a good one, you may be as well to leave it standard for a while.

It doesn't exactly look like downtown Basra where you live, so some metal valve caps would compliment what you have done to the brakes for a fiver or so.

The 206 is a much smoother looking wiper compared to the focus, its a very common mod on these cars. The casing on the 206 makes it look cleaner etc

looks good, I wish I's got a Magnum grey one now as all the STs on the Isle of Man are Imp Blue!

One modification i would advise against is the one i made to mine the week before Xmas :(

st170 alloys are renound for bubbling. the one major gripe people have with them, id like to get them refurbed at somepoint but will wait till winters out of the way first.

Sorry to hear about your car mate, how did that happen? i presume its repairable?

My alloys have bubbled up exactly the same, plus the centre caps are are in a similar eway to yours. Bit of a poor job from Ford on that one.

I'm waiting for the bodyshop to book me in, they are replacing the rear 1/4, bumber and spraying the boot & door. I also asked if they'd respray the bonnet as its peppered in stone chips and they are doing that and the wings for £120 extra.

The main job is under my insurance so i don't know how much that'll be just yet. They want the car for 7 days (38 hours) and at £30+vat an hour just for labour its gonna sting :D

All is not as bad as it seems though! that pannel had been dinged before i bought the car and the repair job wasn't great. there were specs of dust and swirls under the laquer coat and there were two ripples where the ding hadn't been filled properly, so i'm fairly happy that'll be gone :)

£120 for the bonnet stone chips isnt bad at all.

ive got a stone chip on my roof and a little dink on the rear 1/4 panel, might see how much to get these pulled out and painted soon. been bugging me for ages lol

Loads i want to do to my car but not enough money lol. Always the same though...fix/change one thing...find another. im on a never ending quest for perfection with my cars
