ST220 Droning sound :(

I'm not the most mechanically minded person so you'll have to bear with me me, but if it was a bearing would it not be a constant sound?

It doesn't make the sound often and is only when getting up to temp I believe. Plus the sound goes by either dipping the clutch or coming off the accelerator. :)

So it would be a constant sound then? Sorry if I'm just repeating things I like to know 100%

At the minute the sound is not constant and 9/10 I can drive the car and you will not hear it at all. When I do hear the sound it is for a second or two at most.

I think the best thing might be for me to get the ol' Ford Monkeys too look at it and see what they say. If it is the bearing anyone care to guestimate for me how much that would be to fix?

A bearing does make a droning sound. When it was going in my Focus is annoyed the hell out of me. I believe it did quieten down when I was off the loud pedal.

Indeed you could take a wheel bearing as a prime example, that drones like a good un.

My thinking was the oil in the box from cold could be too thin, causing the noise to go when it warms up. Plus with the clutch being pressed and the gearbox being disconnected this all kinda adds up somewhat.

If a bearing is on its way out it wont be all of the time I dont think. However, it will get worse :)

Best get a monkey to check it out :)

Okies cool.

Cheers for all the help guys, will get it looked at as soon as I can. I may even update as to what the problem was if I remember or anyone is interested lol.

I'll let you know shortly about the badge too Pete :)

Mondeo owner checking in - nothing to report. Over.

Posting that is asking for trouble too :p

Is this 'My ST220 is broken' day? :D

I don't have to drive mine today, so this may continue tomorrow :(

Sounds like you have a moosing problem, take a look over on fordmondeo.org in the wiki for the way to solve it, requires a new intake pipe or something along those lines.
