hey all, having some reall weird problems, just wondered if anyone knew a very decent free peice of software that i can download to scan and check for any failures in any of my internal hardware.

thanks, ags

ummmm, for some reason, i cant restart, just doesnt boot up after, can shut down and manualy turn back on fine, maybe the rare occasion it will do the same as the boot up where mouse and keyboard will not come on (the both have led back lights so i can see when power is comeing on) and my screen just wont turn on.

another prob is when i play lost planet demo (was working fine a few days ago) it lags, like 1 second stutter, as though im getting like 1fps during the menu, ummm, odd sound cracks comeing through if i try sometimes.

a weird whining noise from within my pc (cant locate it) which happens on random, very high pitch.

overall, i cant seem to pin point it down to a single bit of hardware, so just need a all round stability testing software tool to run for a few hours and tell me whats having errors.

nothing in there that will do what i need, i just need a tool that can check everything all in all.

the SP2004 seems to be ok, but only does the ram and cpu.

Problem solving can't really be done using software, to a degree it can.... but generally you just have to do things the hard way, using spare parts or another PC to swap parts with.

If something is faulty, its just process of elimination.

aye, i used to do it that way all the time, but seeing as both my gpus and cpu is under watercooling, it makes it a lot of hassle in the long run

so, i just need some software to stress test everything and see what cracks under pressure, as i said in previous posts in the gameing section, i am currently only using 1gb (2x512) ddr2 ram from a dell dimension until friday when i get 2gb of team xtreem 8000. due to the 4gigs i had went to a mate who offered me 600 quid for all of it cos he couldnt find any anywhere.

and im gonna buy another e6600 purely and simply to see if this one has gone. there so cheap now, cant really loose even if i did have 2, cos i got a EVGA 680i board sitting beneath my bed doing nothing along side a 7800 GTX and some other random parts.

no one got any decent software stability testing tools then?

also, i was thinking, updateing my bios might make a difference. but ive never done it before, normally get my mate to do it, all i have is a .bin file which has the full latest version of the bios for my mobo.... no idea what im supposed to do lol... tried burning it onto disk and boot up from it, but all i got was something about removing the disk and pressing any key to restart.

As t31os said, it generally requires "playing" about with each bit of kit to identify the problem.

Doesn't sound like the RAM or GFX card tho, so you shouldn't have to play about with the WC too much.

Most likely mobo/cpu/maybe PSU based, and since youve tested the CPU, it narrows it down a bit further. Updating the bios wont really sort it if there's dodgy hardware, if you say you have a spare board, GFX and other stuff, it shouldnt be that difficult to test it all.

well you seee, the asus striker extreme has been known for being really tempermental, and this new bios update apparently sorts out MANY problems, so id rather give it a whirl than indulge my self by scrubbing up and opening up my pc tbh.

just wondered if anyone has a link to a short guide on how to update the bios or maybe even simple steps for me. ive downloaded the file....

thanks, ags

Hi Ags,

Seems like a number of issues i have had over the years, not saying this will sort out your issues but worth a look!

The restart issue i had was down to a netgear network card when ever it was in the computer it would not restart but once i took it out the computer it would restart fine. So i would try taking out all the cards and try a restart if it works put each card back one at a time.

With the sound stutter this could be realted to the first issue as it could be the sound card thats stopping the restart due to a fault, or check if onboard is turned off?

When i run the HALFLIFE 2 Map editor i get a very high pitch noise, it was very hard to track down but in the end it was the graphics card, swaped it out and it stopped put it back and it started up again.

To update the BIOS just pop in your motherboard cd and look under utilis and you will see ASUS update install it this is a windows based program to update your BIOS super simple to use.

Hope some of this helps

Nice one

okies, i love you for letting me know about the update part from the disk! i never realised about the tabs at the top for all other sorts of intstalls lol, thank you very much, just updateing now, see if that will help

the high pitch is really annoying as it disorientates my crt and sends micro waves through it (by that i mean little wobbly lines) but ill be getting a dell 24" LCD again this friday so it wont affect that.

after this update ill try restart, if no luck, ill do as you suggested, remove the shoundcard and see what happens.

thanks again mate, ags
