WOW

What a superb, thought provoking film.

Just finished watching it and am speechless.

One of the best WWII films I have seen. Is it based on any true accounts?

It really does bring home what War is in a way no other film I have seen.

The fact it is entirely in a foreign language makes it even better IMO, I felt the same regarding Downfall as well.

Agreed - this is without a doubt one of the best WWII films made. Quite disturbing and emotional at times.

I have this on VHS but haven't watched it for years. From what I remember it's mostly about the struggle for survival in horrid winter conditions rather than an action film.

Not as good as 'How to Train your Dragon' mind.

Where did you get the version with the German language?

I have the "normal UK" version which I bought from the high street, and was disappointed to find that it didn't have both English and German audio channels. I'm stuck with badly dubbed English. So bad I've tried 3 times to watch the film, and turned it off after only half an hour each time.

You have to see:
Cross of Iron
The Big Red One
The Dirty Dozen
Hell in the Pacific

Couldn't get into it at all, didn't even really feel the characters either perhaps it was the english dub that caused it

The guy that had his body blown in half was rather interesting :(

Now watch Come and See by Elim Klimov.

Got that on DVD years ago. My brother half inched it on me and I still haven't gotten it back. I remember when I was sitting watching it though, during the attack on the forest, thinking to myself "damn, the special effects for this are really intense". I picked up the DVD box and was reading the spiel on the back and it said they used live ammunition in a lot of scenes.

Obviously health and safety wasn't much of a problem at the time.

9th company is another good Russian war film telling the story of the battle for hill 3234 in the Afghan war.

Now go and read War of the Rats. by David L Robbins, this is the story about Vasily Zaitsev, the character that Jude Law is portraying in the movie and the film is based on.

On a more factaul or serious note, the book Stalingrad, by Anthony Beever is also very good.
Both available on the south american river site.

Now watch Come and See by Elim Klimov.

Just watched it, well..

It was a complete mind ****, a girl and a boy laughing, then crying, staring at the camera, crying again. Some more madness, she sees dead bodies and then they both go slumping through dodgy mud and more oddness!. Pretty much the entire film felt like a one way trip to the asylum.

People certainly have some odd tastes that's for sure :p
